It is crazy how life unfolds itself, all in its own timing.  You cannot always plan out the future and you definitely cannot predict the future.  All you can do is live your life and let the dots connect.

As a little girl, I remember setting up my stuffed animals on the bed and I would be the teacher.  I read stories to them, taught lessons, and I even made homework assignments for them to complete.

Somehow along the way I had a belief that being a businesswoman would be way flashier and make more money, so I pursued that route in college.  And for some reason I thought I would prove something by finishing college in 3 years, so I took all the classes I needed to graduate.  But then I started dating my husband that 3rd year in college and then realized, why rush to graduate?  I will be working the rest of my life… why not enjoy this college life for one more year?  So I stayed a 4th year and that was the best decision.

I ended up traveling abroad to Hong Kong for a semester, taking a bunch of random classes like Mandarin Chinese and Advanced Piano, and I also enrolled in Teacher Education classes where I was required to volunteer every week in a classroom.  I was reminded then of my true passion to become a teacher, so after college, I said goodbye to my Management Science degree and continued to graduate school to get my Elementary Education Credential and Masters in Education with an emphasis in Technology.

I taught Kindergarten and first grade for 9 years and to balance out the stresses of teaching a bunch of 5 year olds who often don’t listen, I also taught yoga and fitness classes to adults in the evenings.  I became a certified E-RYT Yoga Teacher, ACE Group Fitness Instructor, TRX Instructor, PiYo and TurboKick Instructor.  It was a great balance, and after I had my first child, I decided to take a leave from teaching public schools and be a part-time mom, part-time fitness and yoga teacher.

Fast forward 5 years later, and I am blessed to teach at the Bay Club Marin and am the Director of Operations and TRX at Marin Power Yoga.  In addition to the 15 classes I teach each week, I am so excited that this coming Monday, I will be leading my first 200 Hour Teacher Training program!!!  I definitely never imagined I would be where I am now, but somehow this is the perfect blend of my Education and Yoga/Fitness background.  Instead of stuffed animals and 5-year-olds, I get to teach adults who are passionate about yoga like me!  I am far from being an expert, but I am happy to be a guide in someone else’s journey.

Humbled… grateful… excited.  Happy 2016 everyone.

Marin Power Yoga is proud to offer this world-renowned “Search Inside Yourself” training to our community for free.  Join us on Saturday October 11, 2014 from 11am – 5pm for a fun, engaging event filled with self discovery, community and learning!  No prior knowledge or experience with meditation, mindfulness or neuroscience required.  This is an introductory class and appropriate for all ages.

Claire is in Dancer Pose below. This pose requires power and ease! Her left foot is grounded, creating a strong foundation. Her right knee is drawing in to the centerline of her body, as her right foot reaches to the sky. Note the smile, if you can’t smile during a pose you need to pull back and find the sweet spot where your body can express the joy it feels!!!!

Power Yoga Playlist – “Spring”

March is here, and we begin to say goodbye to winter and hello to spring.  One of my favorite things about March is seeing all the spring blossoms that begin appearing everywhere.  A normal commute along the usual roads, or a regular walking path around the neighborhood, can be brightened by the beautiful colors and flowers all around, if you just take a moment to notice them.  March is always quite a rainy month, but without the rain, we wouldn’t have rainbows coloring the sky.

My most recent Power Yoga playlist is inspired by this changing of seasons from winter to spring.  I searched for songs that I felt expressed beauty, light, and appreciation for something as simple as seeing a rainbow that appears one moment and is gone the next, or seeing the rays of sunlight peeking through thick, gray clouds.

Tough Mudder – Just Say Yes!

Two weeks ago Saturday, I ran the Tough Mudder.  For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s basically a military type obstacle course about 10 miles long and set up in Tahoe at Northstar. It’s sponsored by the Wounded Warrior Project and its “something that I have always wanted to do.”  Yes, I did it.  The whole thing, every obstacle.  My regular yoga practice had my 43 year old body well prepared for the challenge.  Enough on that.  What was really amazing about that whole experience was something way bigger than the “feather in my hat.” 

I ran the Mudder with an acquaintance, Stephanie.  I have known Steph for years and have always thought how amazing she is.  A fellow RN, runner, amazing mom, fantastic wife and world traveler. She is the gal who decides to go to Vietnam and literally packs a back pack and goes.  I love that!  She was always one of those gals whom I have always said, “I would love to get to know her better.” 

From there the universe did its thing.  I put my intentions out and the response was a FB message one random day from Stephanie asking if I wanted to run the Mudder.  Of course I said “yes!!” Fast forward 4 months and Stephanie and I ran the Mudder.  A perfect combination.  We inspired each other, we cheered each other on, we laughed and we finished, cold, wet and dirty.  Stephanie is no longer my acquaintance she like a sister.  I know that she will always have my back and I hers.  I know what she’s made of and what she can handle and how.  What a gift.  What a blessing.

AYP, same thing. “Something I have always wanted to do”. Working on this project I am gifted regularly in some way shape or form.  It started with the gift of family togetherness as Sean, Skylar and I committed to do this.  From there it grew to include my extended family at MPY and then the local community and now moving into the international community. 

Most recently, I was introduced to two amazing women who wanted to donate their time to help with this project.  I met June and Cheri at Lincoln Park and while we drank wine we fired out ideas about upcoming events and what we can do to raise money for AYP.  While I was sitting there I knew, once again that I had made friends for life. Again, how blessed I am. 

Thank you Stephanie, June and Cheri and welcome to my life!  Thank you universe for giving me what I ask for!!!!

Meditation Workshop Sunday in San Anselmo

Take Me To A Higher Ground! – Meditation Workshop this Sunday August 11th from 9:30 to 11am (yes, the flyer says 11:30 but it will end at 11). You will obtain simple and effective techniques to support a daily meditation practice and participate in a guided meditation with Laura.
