Maybe the word “Power” is not exactly a term that is attractive to you, and is in fact, a term you eagerly walk away from. What if the word “Power” was replaced by the word “Gentle?” What comes to mind now?
At Marin Power Yoga, yes, we do offer primarily Power Yoga classes throughout the week. But starting on Wednesday, January 22nd, we will begin offering “Gentle Flow” classes from 10:45am to 11:45am on Mondays and Wednesdays. This Gentle Flow class will be geared towards beginning yogis, seniors, pre- and post-natal women, individuals healing from injuries, or anyone who just wants a more relaxing, calm, and lighter yoga practice for the day.
What does a Gentle Flow yoga class look like? We will gather in a warm, not heated, room, and prepare our practice with not only our yoga mat, but we may use optional props such as blocks, straps, sandbags, or blankets. Breathwork, heat-building, strength, balance, and surrender will be the pillars of the practice.
We will first clear our minds and establish a steady and controlled breath that will be maintained throughout the class. Then we will create natural heat in the body by flowing our breath in sync with simple to follow physical movements. We will allow adequate time to mindfully settle into standing, seated, prone, supine, and possibly inverted poses in order to ensure proper alignment, allow for modifications, and create deep sensations within the entire body. Transitions between poses will be performed in a smooth and careful manner to prevent injuries, especially when transitioning to/from the floor, and physical adjustments may be given to enhance your yoga experience. Above all, this gentle flow class serves as a guide for your body and mind to discover all the benefits of yoga in a non-threatening environment that accepts you just the way you are.
We welcome you to try our new Gentle Flow class on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:45am to 11:45am, or invite someone who you know may be interested or new to yoga. No pressure, no competition, just show up, have an open mind, and leave class feeling relaxed and rejuvenated!
