Teacher highlight of the month starting off today! Happy to spotlight Alonna Cox. You can find Alonna at the studio at all times of day and always with a smile on her face. Read all about her and leave a comment below. ❤️❤️
1. What do you teach at Marin Power Yoga?
A little bit of everything! Weekly I teach power, gentle, yin, and TRX. But I love subbing, so you’ll find me teaching TKO and bootcamp as well.
2. What song always gets you dancing?
Night Moves by Bob Seger. And anything on Paul Simon’s Graceland album. A good dance sesh can cure just about anything.
3. If you could have a coffee date with one person throughout history who would it be and why?
That last question has me thinking about rock n roll. Can it be a rock and roll coffee date? Bring in Jerry Garcia, Tom Petty, John Lennon, Prince, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, ask them about some wild stories and then they all play together! I’d bring my dad along with me. He was the one who gave me my love for classic rock and these songs help us connect and bring my dad so much joy and sparks his memories of “good ole days”.
4. What is the best vacation you have ever taken?
Last year I traveled to Playa Del Carmen with my partner (Lyle) and his family. We soaked up the sun, saw incredible Mayan ruins, went scuba diving, dove in cenotes, ate a lot of tacos and drank margaritas. It was the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure. A close second is a backpacking trip I took with my dad in New Mexico back in 2013. It was a 75-mile trek through the Rockies in an area called Philmont. It was a spectacularly beautiful and spiritual trip. We grew so close and he helped me while I helped him. Philmont is my dad’s favorite place in the world. He was able to backpack here with both my brother and me. I am so grateful I got to share in this experience with my dad and we will forever have the memories and pictures.
5. What makes you smile?
I’ve worked with children over the past 6 years and they always bring me so much joy. Their innocence, authenticity, curiosity, excitement, and mischievousness make me remember what life is all about.
6. What are three words that describe you?
Compassionate, adventurous, silly
7. What is one thing on your bucket list?
I love to ski, there are two seasons in my life; ski season, training for ski season. I would love to ski in Japan, South America, the Alps, Canada. Be a worldwide skier!
8. What’s your secret talent?
I’m pretty dexterous and have a “finger” dancing talent. Ask about it next time you see me haha.
9. What’s your favorite quote that resonates with you?
My dad and I always say “Have a blast while you last!” It’s a reminder to enjoy and be in the moment. To not take life too seriously. To remember life is unpredictable and short, so do what you love. Being human is one of the most miraculous things that can happen, and we live in such a beautiful world and we have endless opportunities to really truly live life to the fullest.
