Member of the Week: Susannah Wallenstrom

1. What is your full name?

Susannah Turner Wallenstrom

2. What was your favorite activity as a child?

I grew up in Va. Beach, VA, so the beach played a very big role in my childhood. My dad would wake us up at 7am on saturdays to get down there before the crowds and the heat. The ocean was my happy place.

3. What job did you have in high school?

I worked in a lot of restaurants waiting tables. You should have seen some of the outfits I had to wear.

4. What is your most embarrassing memory?

The day before I met my husband’s (then boyfriend’s) parents for the first time, I ate (bad) oysters as an appetizer for Thanksgiving. I drove the 4 hours to his house in MD the next day and started to feel unwell on the drive. They welcomed me into their home and as we sat in the living room talking, someone commented that I looked a little green. I had to excuse myself…for the entire night. I spent the first night in my future in-laws house puking in their basement. It was pretty embarrassing.

5. What is the best vacation you have ever taken?

I was fortunate enough to travel with my family for a year in South and Central America in 2014-2015. It was honestly the best year of my life with many special memories.  We went to a lot of amazing places, but my favorite was Bariloche in the Patagonia region of Argentina. Beautiful lakes, majestic mountains, lots of hiking, nicest people, and delicious food and wine.

6. What makes you laugh out loud?

My kids! And my husband’s dance moves

7. What accomplishments are you most proud of?

Raising 3 girls, running 4 marathons in my 20’s, getting over my fear of public speaking, and starting a private practice as a registered dietitian/nutritionist.

8. What advice would you give to your younger self?

Don’t take yourself so seriously. And stop procrastinating.

9. What would you like people to remember about you?

That I was caring, kind, and liked to have fun.

10. Why do you practice at Marin Power Yoga?

#1 reason is the amazing community of teachers and members who all encourage each other and support each other.

#2 Grace’s dance class-THE BEST!
